Abstract

Plato’s Meno is traditionally acknowledged as a good introduction in Platonic thought. But along with discussing important theoretical issues Plato depicted in it a unique constellation of characters vividly representing various attitudes to the art of dialectics and to philosophy as intellectual enterprise. Therefore, the task of the teacher in students’ class is twofold. On the one hand, he has to show clearly the urgency of problems and approaches to their solution formulated by Plato. On the other hand, it is the existential situation of Platonic dialogue itself, which is to be revived together with students in order to experience not only theorized, but also lived philosophy.
